The Philadelphia Children’s Theatre Presents:

May 2004 Vol. 118, No. 9

By: Jean Bradley

Though the Ethical Society offers less than ideal accommodations, theater companies regularly use our various rooms for rehearsals and, on rare occasions, performances. One theater company that breaks the mold is the Philadelphia Children's Theatre (PCT), Gina Gugliemi, Executive Director and Margie Sokoloff, Artistic Director. Unlike many companies, PCT charges less than $10 a ticket, offering productions based on the best of popular children's fiction. Visitors to the (downstairs landing) have observed their elaborate sets that they must set up and break down on a weekly if not nightly basis. In exchange for the use of our building (at our very reasonable rates), we occasionally ask Gina if they will treat the children at our adopted school, the Robert Morris Charter, to one of their delightful shows. Our own Temma Fishman, who sits on the Board of Robert Morris, very kindly makes the arrangements and invariably provides juice and cookies for the children as an additional treat. Temma received this reply in response to the last invitation.

(Letter From Robert Morris School to Robert Morris Group Representative)

Dear Ms Fishman,

Thank you so much for arranging the generous donation of the theatre tickets. We look forward to seeing one of our favorite books brought to life. The children just adore Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse.

Sincerely,

Robert Morris 1ST Grade Teachers

The children and adults thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we encourage you, the readers of Ethical Views, to take advantage of the opportunity to attend Lilly or other upcoming shows. Call (215) 893-1999 for dates, prices and reservations. Their website is located at PCTheatre.org.

Thank you PCT for your generosity!
