Workshops

Participants of our workshops will experience several movement-based activities, guided by professional theatre artists from PCT's touring ensembles. Through circle games, partner exercises, and some solo exploration, participants will develop a greater understanding of show themes and an appreciation for movement as its own language, a means of expression and communication. Our workshops are tailored for elementary and middle school, depending on attendance.

THE TALISMAN WORKSHOPS - JULY 7 & 9 2008, 11AM

Space is limited, sign up now!

Using scenes from Touchstone Theatre's production of The Talisman (July 7-12, 2008)* as a springboard, participants will dialogue about the production.  Scenes from the play will be re-played by our artists, highlighting examples of bullying in Andersen's life. Students will have the opportunity to jump into the scene themselves and offer alternative ways to deal with bullying. As time allows, students will also brainstorm and build scenes illustrating bullying in their own community (school, church, neighborhood, etc), using this safe space to dialogue and explore solutions through theatre. Guardian Guides

"Will my 3 year old enjoy this show?" " Are the themes in this show more appropriate for older kids?" "Is this show to scary for my child?" "Do you have a vocabulary guide?" These are just some of the questions we get from you, our patrons.

Because you understand your child better then anyone else, we've created guides to help you make your own decision regarding age appropriateness for your child. We also wanted to just give you a "heads-up" on what you and your child can expect from one of our shows.  Our Guardian Guides provide you with themes within the show, spoiler alerts that can include exactly what may be a bit scary for young ones (i.e., loud or quick noises, smoke machines or flashing lights) and vocabulary definitions for more challenging words so you can prepare your child and help them enjoy their theatre experience to the best of their ability or make a different choice for your child within our season. It's your choice!

In addition to providing thought provoking theatre and great entertainment, Philadelphia Children’s Theatre offers study guides for each of their performances. This material allows you to have a thoughtful discussion or activity with your child or student before or after the play highlighting the story’s major themes. We hope you’ll take a minute and review this material to add to your child’s theatre going experience.
